I am currently not in the jolly mood to start with an intro that has me typing out a nice greeting of "Hey, I'm back!" So let's get right into the topic and cut the unnecessary chit chat out.
I have a good guy friend. A real nice guy. I have enjoyed his companionship for the past two years. We've had a few major downs. And tiny misunderstandings here and there. Overcame anything that had to be overcome.
Now, with us (and perhaps many other people), there is a sharing of links to sites that is always being passed around in the chat room. What mostly goes back and forth between us are YouTube videos. They can be music, trailers to movies, pictures, cartoons, etc. Whenever I send my friend a link, it's mostly to ask for an opinion, because it has been established between us that our tastes can be very different. When our thoughts are mutual, I get very happy to find a new common ground. If not, I turn into a turtle. Sometimes, a very upset turtle. Like now.
In many occasions, my friend will not like the link I sent him and won't even finish watching and/or listening to the video. And I have learned to overlook it whenever he chooses to do so. Because most of the time, I mentally prepare myself before I send the link. But sometimes I get really upset. And that is what has happened today. Tonight, to be specific.
I've become one of the many subscribers to one certain LPer on YouTube a couple months back and started checking out the LPer's Tumblr just yesterday. On one of the LPer's page, there was one post that had been reblogged. This video right here: http://youtu.be/_VK2il0LnOY.
I watched it because it sparked my curiosity. It has, in my opinion, a nice soundtrack. However, the video contains no dialogue. So quite frankly, I didn't understand what the video was trying to convey to its audience. All I know is that I liked the video, despite its weirdness, and wanted someone to interpret the story for me.
Guess who I turned to for help? That's right. My good guy friend.
Guess what he did? Didn't finish the video.
He told me, "Don't even know what to say about it. Just seems pretty dumb."
...
How can he tell me that when he didn't even finish watching the video? In fact, he stopped four minutes into the video, which is halfway. Before it had even reached the climax. Honestly, I should have expected for him to not finish since he's not into animation. But it had no dialogue, meaning that I didn't have to find him any subs or dubs, making it easier for my friend to watch the video. So I had at least hoped he would finish the video until the end. Even if it wasn't to his liking. Apparently I was wrong, because to him, eight minutes is long. For an animation, anyway.
Really, all I wanted was his opinion and interpretation. Clearly, his opinion didn't help me at all since he was vaguely interested in the story. And there was no interpretation because he didn't even have the patience or the open mind to finish what had started.
In the end, my friend had left me in fumes. I was really close to yelling at him for not being wholly respectful to me, because I finish every single one of the videos that he shares with me. Even if I did not like the video in the beginning or midway, I dutifully finish it until the end because I feel like that is the right thing to do. And respectful.
But man, my good friend, all that video wanted was love. (WHY CAN'T YOU LOVE IT?)
And all I wanted was help. (WHY CAN'T YOU HELP ME?)
I guess my main point in this blog post is (besides venting my rage in a rant) to ask my other good friends out here in the blog world to help this girl here to come up with an interpretation. Because I know that this video has some beautiful yet hidden meaning in it. I just have yet to find this wonderful meaning.. So grab a magnifying glass and let's be detectives!
Shall be much obliged if helped. Particularly in the comments department. :D
Jess, stop ignoring meee. D: Just kidding, but really, reply to any of my messages/email I sent to you when you can.
ReplyDeleteOnto my comment about this post...
First off, there's always going to be people like that. People who think that they're taste in whatever is better than yours. My brother and I debate every now and then because of the differences in our likes and dislikes. Before I would get so annoyed because he would act like your friend (I know who you're talking about btw...) and try to refute every opinion of his, but I eventually learned to accept the differences in our taste and his (unfair) way of judging.
So there's two ways to go about this situation: 1.) No longer share anything with him nor ask for his opinion (the outcome is apparent...) or 2.) Embrace his unfair and rushed way of judging things and his extremely particular preferences.
Now onto my thoughts of the video.
I think there's two ways to look at this. It could be a story that symbolizes today's dying world or it could be a story about fate, hope, and compassion.
We are living in a dying, apathetic world ─ a world where no one cares and is just living because of the fact that they're alive. It may feel like the end of the world for us because, despite searching for what seems to be forever, we find no hope. But the truth is that that special someone or something that we needed has been right in front of us. In fact, it's been there all along, searching for us. It's merely a matter of waiting.
On the other hand, it could be a story about a girl in an unloving world searching for acceptance and compassion and a boy who is searching for water (which may symbolize "life"; in other words people who are "alive" in the sense that they have a true heart with sincere feelings unlike those zombie-like people). Fate intertwines the girl and boy together and they find what they're looking for. She finds love and he finds "water." They both leave with conviction and hope in their hearts.
A simple yet beautiful story with profound meaning.
I'm so sorry. Dx
DeleteWell, he doesn't say that his taste is better than mine or others. Plus, he agrees that he doesn't share the same views as others, even when they share the same interests. Which is fine. I tend to just accept that our tastes differ. Like, he's a huge Lord of the Rings fan and tries to get me to watch the series and all these other movies that are considered amazing but usually fall in the rated R category. So I'm always acting iffy around him lol.
Well..I'm always trying to embrace what bugs me, just like your shortness. :D
I did get a sense of that "dying world" because of the "walking dead.";D I've also read a lot about the idea of hope in YouTube comments. But none of them expanded onto an explanation, leaving me with a teaser.
Anyway, thank you for the two paragraphs of explanation. It was more than I expected. My best friend is such a sweetheart. :] <3
Forgot to reply to this...
DeleteI see. He seems like he thinks that his taste is better than yours though because he doesn't even finish what you shared with him. >_>
Pwaha, hey! I would be taller if it wasn't for this scoliosis. -__-;;
Hmm, I see. Yeah I thought that it was about hope because the ending kinda left me feeling positive about this world. But that's just wishful thinking.
Hah, you know it. ;P
Lawls, it's okay. :3
DeleteLol, are you trying to tear up my friendship with him?!?! This is you: I tried so hard and got so far. In the end, it doesn't even matter.
Would you be taller than moi? /:)
Feeling positive is good. Complex stories are good sometimes too. On the other hand, wishful thinking man. They do us no good sometimes.
Does that mean you'll go to the bathroom with me?
